Committees: The FAN Connection
Communications
The Communications Committee produces the FAN printed newsletter and e-news. Published once yearly, the printed newsletter is an important review of our meetings, camaraderies and grants awarded in photos and copy. The e-news is sent monthly to provide members with information on upcoming FAN meetings and activities as well as photos from recent events. This Committee is also responsible for press releases, the website, and other communications with the public.
If you have public relations, editorial, reporting, photography and/or technology experience, please consider this committee.
Cultural Camaraderie
This committee plans and hosts events at which our members attend a performance or exhibition funded by FAN, preceded or followed by a lunch, dinner, reception or other social event. Cultural Camaraderie has become extremely popular with the FAN membership, and an effective means of recruiting new members.
This committee seeks members interested in meeting new friends, organizing and attending these arts-related grantee events and in having a good time with others.
Membership
The Membership Committee focuses on creating special activities to recruit new members and to provide exciting arts-related activities for our current members. Special events include Members-Only adventures, such as Behind-the Scenes tours, trips to art collector’s homes, or visiting locations not usually available to the public.
Are you a social butterfly who is persuasive, amiable, and loves to planning get-togethers? The Membership committee needs YOU!
Programming Committee
At FAN’s quarterly luncheon meetings current topics concerning arts and culture are vibrantly discussed by key leaders from the arts community. The Programming Committee assists with the development and organization of the program, and with the luncheon arrangements. Luncheons are held in November, January, March and May. Guests and prospective members are welcomed at these meetings. Grantees, panelists and arts leaders mingle informally with members and guests.
If you are an art aficionado, join the Programming Committee.
Screening Committee
The Screening Committee is crucial to FAN’s mission to support the visual and performing arts in Miami-Dade County. The task of the Screening Committee is to select the programs that will receive grants for the upcoming season. Members of the committee, working together, have a unique opportunity to learn about the grant evaluation process and applicant arts organizations while performing an important service for the membership.
Screening Committee members can choose to screen in one of the four disciplines FAN funds: Music, Dance, Theater and Visual Arts. The screening process starts with a training session in February. Screeners then review grant applications, make site visits and meet with other members of their team to select the applications they will recommend to the entire committee. The process concludes in March, when the entire Screening Committee votes for the programs that will be awarded grants. The general membership will vote on an award in each of the four disciplines for outstanding community impact. The grantees will be honored at the Grant Awards Luncheon at the end of the season.
Love the arts? You can be on a Screening Team even without any prior experience in reviewing grant proposals. Join the Screening Committee to serve a vital role and help fulfill FAN’s mission to support Miami-Dade arts groups.
Development Committee
The Development Committee works to increase FAN’s grantmaking capacity. It encourages donations from members and the community. It partners with other committees’ efforts to increase and sustain membership. If you want to help FAN support even more arts organizations in Miami Dade – join the Development Committee.
