FAN’s mission of providing grants to support the arts is more important than ever due to uncertain state funding. Last year, the governor vetoed all state funding to cultural organizations.

Support the arts: To help cultural organizations continue to enrich the quality of life in Miami-Dade County: donate more to FAN to increase our grant pool; give directly to arts organizations; buy subscriptions to arts programming as soon as they are available.

State funding: What you need to know:

Last year’s FY 2024–25 budget
• The Legislature had originally provided $32 million for Cultural and Museum Grants.
• Governor DeSantis line-item vetoed the entire $32 million — meaning arts organizations received zero gulfcoastnewsnow.com+2stpetecatalyst.com+2cltampa.com+2

FY 2025–26 budget passed on June 16, 2025
• The Legislature this year recommended $20.8 million for Cultural and Museum Grants stpetecatalyst.com.
• Separately, there’s an additional $30 million in arts funding restored through a broader spending measure cltampa.com+4gulfcoastnewsnow.com+4washingtonpost.com+4
• Therefore, in raw legislative allocations: $20.8 M + $30 M = $50.8 million set aside for the arts in FY 2025–26.

Caveat: Governor’s LineItem Authority
• Just like last year, the FY 2025–26 budget now goes to the governor, who has 15 days to approve or veto individual line items stpetecatalyst.com+1wusf.org+1
• With the governor’s veto pen looming, it’s uncertain how much of the $50.8 million will actually survive to be released.

If you are a registered voter in Florida and wish to express concern about State funding for the arts, call the governor’s office directly: (850) 717-9337, to encourage him to leave arts funding in the bill. You might mention that aside from improving the quality of life for Floridians, our cultural scene supports our economy, to the extent that it has been calculated that every dollar of funding generates about $9 more in related income.

You can contact also contact your elected officials; find their contact information at https://dos.fl.gov/elections/contacts, to thank them for including arts funding in the budget.
